Prairie Bean Roastery began with a simple quest: the search for a perfect cup of coffee. Nestled in the heart of Saskatchewan, Prairie Bean Roastery is now a proud provider of locally-produced, fresh-roasted coffee, adding another wonderful facet to the rich tapestry of this province.

A Journey Inspired by Seattle

In October 2016, a trip to Seattle turned into a coffee epiphany. Visiting a local coffee roaster, the founders found themselves in coffee heaven, captivated by the fresh-roasted flavors. They left Seattle with a dream: to bring that same quality of coffee back home to Saskatchewan.

Humble Beginnings

Back in Saskatchewan, armed with a used air-popper and specialty green beans, the journey of roasting coffee began. Although primitive, this method allowed them to refine their technique, one batch at a time. The home-roasted coffee, far superior to store-bought options, received rave reviews from family and friends.

Taking the Leap

By February 2017, it was time to scale up. They invested in a 3kg roaster from Mill City Roasters and received their first shipment of premium green coffee beans, a whopping 1800 pounds. With the new roaster in place, they spent countless hours perfecting their roasts, experimenting with various coffee origins and developing proprietary blends. The goal was clear: create smooth, flavorful coffee with no bitter taste, enjoyable at any temperature.

Community Support and Expansion

The early days saw coffee being shared and sold to family and friends in Ziploc bags labeled with a Sharpie. Encouraged by the positive feedback, they decided to expand their reach. Partnering with Gwyn Korpi LLC, Freelance Artist and Designer, Prairie Bean Roastery developed a logo and coffee labels that reflected the beauty of Saskatchewan's prairie vistas.

Upgrading the Experience

To meet growing demand and ensure consistency, they upgraded to a 12kg Diedrich Automated IR-12 roaster in January 2018. This eco-friendly, automated roaster not only increased production capacity but also enhanced the quality and consistency of their coffee. Today, Prairie Bean Roastery offers a variety of single-origin coffees and unique blends that delight customers, many of whom now enjoy their coffee black, appreciating the rich, balanced flavors.
