Discover Mogiana Coffee

Founded in 2008 by Cristina Dias, Mogiana Coffee brings the rich heritage of Brazilian coffee farming to Burnaby, British Columbia. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Cristina spent her summers on her family’s coffee farm in the Mogiana region of Brazil. Here, she developed a deep appreciation for the coffee-growing process and the community it supports. Cristina’s passion for coffee and her family's legacy inspired her to share their story and exceptional coffee with the coffee lovers of BC.

A Commitment to Quality and Community

At Mogiana Coffee, every step of the coffee production process reflects our commitment to quality, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. Our family has been growing coffee in the Mogiana region since the 1890s, practicing the same core values that produce not just outstanding coffee but also an enriched community. We treat everyone in our supply chain as part of our extended family, fostering relationships through ethical business practices and true sustainability.

Specialty Grade Arabica Beans

Today's coffee drinkers are knowledgeable and discerning, seeking only the best. Mogiana Coffee meets these high expectations by working exclusively with specialty grade Arabica beans. Each bean is carefully grown, processed, and roasted to ensure a consistently great cup of coffee. Our great-grandparents recognized the importance of quality over a century ago, choosing to cultivate the Bourbon varietal, known for its full body, low acidity, deep aromas, and smooth finish. The Mogiana Valley's higher altitude, warm sun, and rich volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for growing these exceptional beans.

A Legacy of Sustainability

Sustainability is integral to Mogiana Coffee’s identity. Our farm operates as a self-sustaining "agro-village," home to 47 resident families. We provide housing, a church, a health clinic, a social club, and a soccer field for our farmworkers and their families. Additionally, we utilize renewable energy, with a small turbine and generator harnessing the farm's natural waterfall power. This allows us to operate off the power grid for 11 months each year.

Environmental stewardship is another cornerstone of our farm. Twenty percent of the farm remains untouched forest, preserving biodiversity. We treat all wastewater to avoid pollution and use dried coffee husks for soil fertilization and powering processing equipment. These practices ensure the land remains fertile and capable of producing outstanding coffee for generations to come.

Education and Social Responsibility

Education is a vital part of our community initiatives. The Mathilde Carvalho Dias School, named after my great-grandmother, provides free education and meals to 700 children from around the Mogiana Valley. By supporting education, we help build a brighter future for our community.

Mogiana Coffee not only pays a fair price for the coffee it buys but also directly supports individuals, families, and the community. Social responsibility is crucial to our success, ensuring that our workers and their families thrive.
